Writers often see editors as everything from gatekeepers and dream crushers to miracle workers and typo fixers. Why? Because many writers don’t fully understand what editors actually do.

The first step to successfully working with a writer is figuring out what kind of editing the writer needs. The next step is clearly explaining how you’ll approach their work. But how do you do that?

In this webinar, you’ll learn how to assess a manuscript’s stage and communicate how your role overlaps with the writer’s needs. Whether you’re working in-house or as a freelancer, you’ll pick up tips for describing your editing process in a way that makes sense to the writer. You’ll discover ways to deliver feedback with kindness and conviction, and when to walk away from a project. Plus, you’ll learn how to show writers where your work fits into the bigger picture of their publishing plan, whether they’re going the traditional route or self-publishing.
