This webinar presents overviews of the general approach to copyediting fiction, how to build a fiction style sheet, and conscious language in fiction. Topics include the fiction copyeditor’s mindset and workflow, grammar and usage concepts unique to fiction, treatment of dialogue, and checking both factual and fictional elements. Attendees will learn the basics of what to include on a fiction style sheet and how to organize it. Finally, the discussion of conscious language in fiction covers descriptions of characters and cultures, spotting bias in action and dialogue, writing appropriate and effective queries, and resources for keeping up with current practice in conscious language. The webinar will conclude with a brief Q&A session.
